Devotional for March 2018

“I am the good Shepherd: the good Shepherd giveth His life for the sheep.” “I am the good Shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me – even so know I the Father, and I lay down my life for the sheep. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold; them also – I must bring. And they shall hear my voice – and there shall be one fold – one Shepherd. Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down – and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.” “I and my Father are one.” [Jn.10:11,14-18,30]

This teaching is directly from Jesus. This is where He declares Himself to be the Good Shepherd”. This is both a very simple and yet a profoundly solemn truth. For it specifically deals with the eternally covenanted atonement of all the sins of all His sheep. It is the carnal and perverse spin of fallen men that has propagated so much confusion concerning this portion of God’s Word. E.g., in vs.11 Jesus announces in no uncertain terms that He is the Good Shepherd”. Then He immediately adds: the Good Shepherd giveth His life for the sheep.”

The word that Jesus uses for lifeis the same word for soulin Mt.10:28 – from where Jesus declares: “…fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the SOUL: but rather fear Him which is able to destroy both SOUL and body in hell!” In other words, dear ones, Jesus says that we should fear only God – for He is the only one who can do that!

Then the Lord Jesus continues in vs.14-18 by giving us some strong clues as to who truly are His sheep. The first of which is that there is an intimate relationship between Him and His sheep. He says from vs.14 that He intimately knows His sheep. Secondly, He says that He, Himself, is also intimately known by them. The loving intimacy of this relationship is made plain by the literal way that vs.15 describes it. Jesus says that the relationship between Him and His sheep is Just as the Fatherknows Him – and He knows the Father. The loving relationship between the Father and Jesus is Biblically famous! Vs.15 closes with Jesus restating that He, the Good Shepherd, gives His (soul) life for the sheep.

Next the Lord Jesus makes a remarkably wonderful statement. He says that there are other sheep that He owns – which are not of this fold; and them also He must (lit.) lead. These others come from every race – kindred – tongue – tribe and generation! Praise the Lord! Every single individual one of them will hear His voice! They hear the gospel of the glory, only, of the Lord Jesus Christ! And, Jesus goes on to descriptively declare that there will be one fold – with one primary Shepherd!

Then Jesus brings up yet again – His eternally atoning sacrifice for all of His sheep throughout the whole history of fallen-in-sin humanity. And, He declares that the everlasting love of God permeates all of it. He says, Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my (soul) life, that I might take it again. (18) No man taketh it from mebut I lay it down of myself. I have power (lit. I have sovereign authority) to lay it down, and I have power (lit. I have sovereign authority) to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father!” This is the commandment of the New Covenant – which is the covenant between God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit – which was entered into before the very foundation of the world. This is the foundation of God which is firmly and eternally sealed in that He intimately knows those that are His. These are His sheep for whom He sacrificed His soul in order to eternally save all theirs. (2Ti.2:19)

Praises and Prayer Requests for March

Praises and Prayer Requests

Dear friends and family in Christ – the Lord is indeed demonstrating the truth unto us of Eph.3:20 which text declares: “Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think – according to the power that worketh in us – unto Him be glory…” The work being accomplished here at Del-Haven has all of us rejoicing in the Spirit and praising God for His wonderful supply – and the wonderful progress that is unfolding right before our eyes. Please be praying with us and giving thanks to the Lord for what He is doing – and at the same time — please seek from Him the protection that only He can give. For I know that the principalities and powers of the Evil One are outraged at what our sovereign Lord is doing for us. And, please be praying for God’s protection and rich blessings upon all the men who have labored so faithfully on our kitchen and the shower house and restrooms. They are not going to be looked upon favorably by the Adversary either! We need to be constantly fulfilling the biblical exhortation for us to pray for one another. May the Lord cause us to do so! By the way, we now the bottom cabinets in place and they need to be painted. If you know of anyone who has experience spray painting – I am told there is about half a day’s job getting these cabinets painted. Please pray with us for this.

We also have come to have a need for another refrigerator. Please be in prayer concerning this. If any of you know of a source of provision for this need – please give us a call: (816) 690-8465.

Yet another wonderful testimony of our Lord’s presence among us is in the provision of a brush hog mower. Wow! What timing! I am seeing the appearing of new grass just starting to come up. It won’t be long before it will spring forth and get ahead of me! It won’t be long and I will need to begin my season long pursuit at keeping the campground trimmed and ready for the children the Lord will be sending our way to hear the wonderful news of His gospel message.

Oh dear friends, please do not forget to be praying for all the children. Pray for all the repeaters that keep coming back to camp year after year. And, also, pray for the new campers that for the first time will set foot on Del-Haven soil. And, as always, please remember to be in prayer for all those who will be on our staff. There is always a turnover on our staff. We are always on the lookout for men and women who have a real desire to serve the Lord helping to reach children for the glory of Christ. These are the special ones that are on the front line of the spiritual battle that will be waged and won against the powers of darkness. This is the way of life at Camp Del-Haven. Praise the Name of the Lord – He is the Head of all principalities and powers! Our conquering Christ will prevail over and against all our foes! He always wins!

Praises and Prayer Requests for February 2018

Praises and Prayer Requests

Well, my dear friends, we are in the midst of the cold time of winter! I have had to diligently work to keep firewood cut in order to feed the wood stove in our dining hall. That really helps us to save money as far as our propane gas bill is concerned. It also helps in warming up the building where much renovating work in our kitchen is being done. Please remember to pray for the crew of God-sent men who are doing such a wonderful job in our kitchen and shower house. They truly are a blessing! We praise our Lord and Savior for each one of them.

As always, dear ones, please remember to pray for the Lord’s provision of staff members. We relish the return each year of the young men and women that have already been a part of the camp Del-Haven staff experience. Nevertheless – circumstances always bring about change, and “necessity requirements “force many of our wonderful workers to have to forego being available to help us during the summer. This is all a part of having to deal with this passing-away-world. We need to always be praying for the Lord to lead to us good quality staff that can effectually be used in ministering to the campers. Our God is, indeed, a prayer answering God! Please pray with us for our staff.

Of course, the whole ministry centers around the children. Satan has always targeted the most vulnerable among us! He has always been after our children. Jesus loves the little children. He even taught the disciples that except they be converted and become like a little child – they would in no wise enter into the Kingdom of heaven [Mt.18:3]! Let us continue to be persistent to pray for the boys and girls that our Lord chooses to send through our camp program. Satan is, indeed, relentless in threatening and battling against Del-Haven’s very existence. However, we praise our Lord God and His grace because He is ever faithful to sustain us so we can carry on! You all are a large part of the reality of that divine sustenance. We thank and praise God for all of you. We love and pray for you, too.

“Lord, thou wilt ordain peace for us:for thou also hast wrought all our works in us.” [Is.26:12]
